Portions Chart/Recommended Slow Cooker Sizes

What a Crock's meals are sold by the portion. One portion is built to feed one person with a large appetite or two light eaters. On average, one portion weighs between 1.5 and 2 pounds. Check out the portion chart below to find the number of portions you should purchase for your family.

Before you order, we highly recommend checking to make sure your slow cooker is the correct size based on the number of portions you are looking to cook.

Cooking a small number of portions in a large crockpot can elevate the risk of your meal burning as it cooks. Please see the chart below for more information.

If you do not own a slow cooker in the correct size, you can also cook many of our meals through the Boil in Bag method or with an Instant Pot.


Number of Portions Recommended Slow Cooker Size

One Portion

Use a 2-3 quart slow cooker. 2 quarts is the optimal size.

Two Portions

Use a 3-6 quart slow cooker. 4 quarts is the optimal size.

Three Portions

Use a 4-8 quart slow cooker. 5 quarts is the optimal size.

Four Portions

Use a 5-8 quart slow cooker. 6 quarts is the optimal size.

Five Portions

Use a 6-8 quart slow cooker. 7 quarts is the optimal size.
